The lightest, coolest rug we stock. The Flag Combo is woven from open-weave 190gsm cotton flag cloth that lets air pour through while shading your horse from the sun and keeping flies and midges off the coat.
The full combo neck covers right up to behind the ears, so there's no exposed gap along the mane on biting-insect days.

When the heat really sets in, the Flag Combo Horse Rug is the one we reach for. Flag cloth is an open-weave cotton, so air moves straight through the fabric instead of trapping heat against the coat. Of all our summer rugs it's the lightest and the coolest to wear.
The breathable weave does two jobs at once: it shades your horse from direct sun and UV, and it forms a barrier against flies, midges and other biting insects, which is a real help for horses prone to Queensland itch.
This is the Combo cut, so the attached neck runs all the way up to behind the ears. Paired with a generous tail flap, it gives nose-to-tail coverage with no bare strip along the mane for insects to get at.

A note on the fabric: flag cloth is light and airy by design, which is exactly why it breathes so well, but it's not built for rough treatment. It's not the rug for a horse that's hard on its gear or turned out with paddock mates who like to play. For those horses our ripstop or mesh rugs hold up better. For a quiet horse on a scorching day, nothing keeps them cooler. These are our own go-to summer rugs at home, right up until a paddock mate decides to help take one off.
