The Flag Hooded rug is the most protective rug in our Flag range. It pairs a permanently attached hood with a full combo body, so your horse's head, ears, neck and body are all covered in the same cool, breathable cloth. If flies, midges or sunburn are the problem on hot days, this is the rug that covers the lot.
Why flag cloth?
Flag is an open-weave cotton, a bit like cheesecloth. It's one of the lightest summer fabrics you can put on a horse and air passes straight through it, so hot air escapes and your horse stays cool while still being shielded from the sun and most insects. The 190gsm fabric also carries UV-block protection.
Full hood: covers the head, over the ears and the whole neck, with generous eyes and a length that lets your horse graze freely. Great for horses prone to mane and forelock rubbing.
Comfort: satin-lined shoulder and mane to stop chafing, with fleece padding on the wither and nose where rubbing tends to start.
Fit: adjustable neck buckles, shoulder gussets for free movement, a generous tail flap for extra cover, and a throat/poll strap for added security.
Secure & practical: double-buckle chest closure, removable leg straps, quality metal fittings, and it's machine washable.
A note on flag rugs: because the fabric is so light and airy, it isn't built for horses that are hard on their rugs or turned out in a rough-and-tumble paddock — it can tear more easily than heavier cloth. These are our own favourite summer rugs for the Mac Tack horses, as long as their paddock mates leave them on.
Sizing: 11 sizes from 4'6" to 6'6". The COB and FULL options refer to the hood size, not the rug — e.g. 6'0" COB is a 6 foot rug with a COB hood.
