The lightest, coolest rug we make. Flag is an open-weave cotton that lets air pass straight through, so your horse stays comfortable on the hottest summer days while still getting insect and UV protection.
At just 190gsm it is a true fair-weather rug, with a satin-lined shoulder and fleece wither to stop rubbing. Nine sizes, 4'6 to 6'6.

The Flag Horse Rug is our lightest, coolest summer rug. Flag is an open-weave cotton, woven loosely a bit like cheesecloth, so air moves straight through the fabric instead of sitting against the coat. On a hot, still day that breathability is the whole point: the horse stays cooler under a Flag rug than under any heavier weave, while the cloth still keeps the worst of the flies off and takes the sting out of the sun.
This is the standard neck version, finishing at the wither. If you want the neck and chest covered as well, the same fabric comes as a Flag Combo, and with a full hood as the Flag Hooded.

A note on durability: Flag is a light, open weave, so it is built for comfort rather than rough-and-tumble. It is ideal for a horse rugged on its own or stabled, but not the best pick for one that is hard on rugs or turned out in a group, where the loose weave can snag and tear more easily. These are our own favourite summer rugs for the Mac Tack horses, as long as the paddock mates leave them alone.
Of our summer rugs, Flag breathes the most. The open cotton weave moves air through to the coat rather than over it, so it is the one to reach for when the heat is the real problem.
A satin-lined shoulder reduces rubbing through the chest and shoulder, and fleece padding over the wither protects a sensitive spot many rugs ignore.
Shoulder gussets give freedom of movement, a double buckle chest closure holds everything in place, and the removable leg straps let you set it up the way your horse prefers.
Machine washable and quick to dry, with quality metal fittings that hold up to regular use through summer.
