A serrated, blunt-edged blade that scrapes bot fly eggs off your horse's coat without nicking the skin. A grooming-kit staple through bot season.
Through the warmer months, bot flies lay small yellow eggs on your horse's coat, usually around the legs, shoulders and chest. Left there, the horse licks them, the eggs hatch, and the larvae end up in the gut. Scraping the eggs off before that happens is the simplest way to break the cycle.
This bot knife is made for exactly that. The curved blade has a serrated but blunt edge that catches eggs off each hair shaft while staying safe against thin-skinned areas like the inside of the legs. The moulded grip sits comfortably in the hand for the bit of scrubbing the job takes.
Serrated, blunt edge lifts eggs off the hair without cutting
Curved blade gets into the legs and other tight spots where eggs collect
Stainless steel blade with a moulded grip handle
A cheap, reusable fix that keeps eggs out of your horse's stomach
Hold it at a shallow angle and scrape down the hair, wiping the blade on a damp cloth as you go so you're not spreading eggs around. Keep it in the grooming kit and run over the legs whenever you spot eggs through bot season.
Once eggs are swallowed during grooming, the larvae attach inside the stomach and can stay for months. Taking the eggs off the coat early cuts down how many ever get that far.
The blunt serrations grab eggs without a cutting edge, so it's safe to use on the legs and other sensitive spots where eggs tend to gather.
